Dwayne Carl's mission is to reduce the stigma of HIV/AIDS, as well as other chronic illnesses He offers resources for HIV and AIDS survivors and their supporters. His passion to inform the populous on the ill treatment of HIV/AIDS survivors is out of the pain of his own experience.
Author's Biography
Dwayne Carl grew up in Aurora, Illinois. Upon graduating from high school, he spent six years in the Air Force, including 13 months in South Korea. Dwayne’s talents in the performing arts led to his being selected as a dancer in an Air Force production which was the Super Bowl XIX halftime show in 1985. Following his honorable discharge, he became a flight attendant for USAir before accepting a job in Atlanta, Georgia. There he pursued acting, singing and dancing on the side; garnering key roles both on stage and in independent films. It was in Atlanta that his personal battle with HIV/AIDS began.

With the launch of this much-anticipated memoir and Dwayne Carl Enterprises, LLC, it is his passion to reach the world with his story and help break down the barriers of stigma and prejudice. Dwayne is a highly engaging professional speaker and spokesperson on the topic of HIV/AIDS. For more information, please visit

He is a client, volunteer and outreach speaker for AIDS Project Los Angeles and a fundraiser for the Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Center. He participates annually in AIDS Walk Los Angeles. Dwayne is a member of Agape International Spiritual Center in Los Angeles California, where he devotes his time to Sacred Service, their volunteer ministry. Dwayne works at WEHO (West Hollywood) Sports, a Public Access Television show that covers gay sporting events, conducts fundraisers and shares the lives of people living with HIV/AIDS.

Dwayne Carl currently resides in Redondo Beach, California.

The Journey Begins
The insight which led to my writing this book began to take form one Saturday morning at the beach where I laid on my towel seeking sun and serenity. Feeling angry, defeated and sad because of the way I had been treated for being gay and having AIDS, I began to express my frustration by writing in the sand and what emerged was,

“I have AIDS—get OVA it!”
